Student Residences Munich Schwabing

Our halls of residence are in the university quarter of Munich, in the middle of Schwabing. Schwabing has always been one of the preferred residential areas for young people. The central location, the distinct cultural life and the distinct nightlife are the reasons for this. The transport connections are excellent. All the shops of daily life can be reached in a few steps, and the English Garden is also not far away.

Schwabing - the place where students find their environment

In Schwabing's university quarter, world history was written and revolutions planned

.

Schwabing is probably the best-known district in Munich. There are many reasons for this. The university and its surroundings made it an artists' and intellectuals' quarter early on.

Many famous painters lived here as well as Hitler and a Mr Mayer - later known as Lenin.

<

Schwabing's time in the '68s

In the 1960s and 1970s, Schwabing was a hotspot of the Flower Power and 68er movement as well as an internationally known party district with legendary clubs such as Big Apple, PN, Domicile, Hot Club, Piper Club, Tiffany.
Numerous bars and pubs still characterise Schwabing today. That is why it is now one of the most sought-after and most expensive residential areas in the city of Munich.

Schwabing and world history - Hitler, Lenin and many revolutions

But Schwabing was a coveted and disreputable neighbourhood even earlier.
For instance, revolutionaries of the Bavarian soviet republic, which was crushed in 1919, as well as the later Ret Marut, who later became famous in Mexico, were at home in Schwabing. Traven/Marut lived in Clemensstraße and published an anarchist magazine there. Some say it was all the artists who concocted the whole revolution in Café Stefanie. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, who first called himself literary Lenin in Schwabing, went into hiding here for a while in Schwabing as the bourgeois Herr Meier with his wife Nadezhda Krupskaya. Adolf Hitler also first tried his luck in Schwabing's left-wing scene.
